Twenty-six teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for flood relief and rescue operations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, officials said on Monday.

While 12 teams have already been deployed in the two neighbouring states, another 14 are being deployed, authorities said.

Of the 14 teams, eight will be flown in from various locations across the country, officials said.

The NDRF teams are equipped with inflatable boats, pole and tree saws and basic medical supplies, authorities said.

For the second day in a row, the two states were hit by torrential rains, resulting in at least ten new deaths on Sunday, flooding and waterlogging in several areas and disruption of road and rail traffic.

According to an SCR official, 99 trains have been cancelled, four trains partially cancelled and 54 trains diverted due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging on tracks at several locations across the South Central Railway network.

In both states, rivers had burst their banks and thousands of people were evacuated from flooded areas to relief camps by national and regional disaster management agencies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and assured them of all possible help from the central government in dealing with the rainfall and floods.
