Men’s Triathlon and Surfing POSTPONED

A very important one, in case you missed it.

The men’s triathlon has been postponed due to – unsurprisingly – concerns over the water quality of the River Seine.

Despite around £1 billion being spent on cleaning up the situation, an inspection at 3.30am found pollution levels were still too high to be safe.

Meanwhile, in Tahiti, surfing has been put on hold for the time being due to ‘bad weather conditions’, affecting the men’s and women’s quarter-finals.

Ireland reaches men’s double sculls final

Kudos to Daire Lynch and Philip Doyle, who reached the men’s doubles final on Thursday by beating the number two seed, the United States, by more than a second.

Germany initially led, but are disappointed after dropping out of the race and missing the final.

Shooters in action this morning

We wish Nathan Hales, Matthew Coward-Holley and Lucy Hall the best of luck this morning as they compete in the men’s and women’s qualifying events respectively.

Riath Al-Samarrai’s search for the SOUL OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

This is one of my favorite pieces that Mail Sport has produced out of Paris so far.

In this beautiful piece, Riath Al-Samarrai describes the stories of some athletes you probably won’t hear about anywhere else and the extraordinary paths they took to get here.

One to keep an eye on this morning

This morning the men’s 100m freestyle heats begin.

Matthew Richards and Jacob Whittle are participating and we will keep you informed of their results.

It bodes well that Richards took silver in the 200m freestyle yesterday, an embarrassing 0.02 seconds behind Romanian star David Popovici.

The medal table as it stands now

Great Britain are currently seventh in the medal table.

The first gold medals came in eventing, thanks to Tom McEwen with his horse JL Dublin, Ros Canter with Lordships Graffalo and Laura Collett with London 52.

Tom Pidcock then made a stunning comeback in cyclocross, coming back from a 40-second deficit and a flat tire to cross the finish line first, as the French crowd booed him.

Great Britain qualifies for women’s doubles final

Rebecca Wilde and Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne have reached the final of the women’s doubles with a fantastic performance, only losing to Romania.

They will be in the Olympic final on Thursday, having only played together this season.

Since Tokyo hardly anyone has come close to Romania – fantastic work. GB were one of the lowest ranked boats here but upset the odds.

Andy Murray and Dan Evans, anyone? They snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the first round and will be next.
