2024 Olympics: Aussie swimming superstar Emma McKeon drops Olympics bombshell ahead of Paris
Australian swimming sensation Emma McKeon has made a shock call about her future ahead of her third Olympic Games.
Australia’s most decorated Olympian, 29, has confirmed the Paris Games will be her last in her quest to add to her 11 medals.
She won gold, two silvers and bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, before taking four golds and three bronzes in the group in Tokyo.
McKeon is currently on the Gold Coast competing in the Australian Open Swimming Championships ahead of the Olympic Trials in June.
Emma McKeon has confirmed that the Paris Games will be her last Olympics
“I think swimming will always be a part of my life, and it has been that way my whole life so far,” McKeon told the Games’ official website, Olympics.com.
‘But these will definitely be my last Olympic Games, so I’m looking forward to that.
‘Success for me in Paris would be to swim faster than ever before.’
She is determined to come out on top.
With a sixth gold medal in Paris in July, her Eclipse colleague Ian Thorpe will become Australia’s most successful Olympic gold medalist.
“I know how hard I have to work and I know how hard I worked before I went to Tokyo,” she added.
‘And to stay at that level, you have to work even harder. So I think knowing that within myself will help me continue to improve.”
It remains unknown whether Paris will be the last time Aussies will see McKeon in the pool.
The 2024 Young Australian of the Year considered retirement during a well-deserved break from the pool after becoming the first female swimmer and the second woman in history to win seven medals in one competition in Tokyo.
Ultimately, she found new motivation for another chance at more Olympic glory.
“I’ve learned over the years that you can’t really rely on the motivation to get you up every morning,” McKeon said.

‘It’s more about discipline and that’s something I’ve grown more and more in swimming over the years.
“But I think what kept me going after Tokyo was that I felt like I had more to give and that I could go faster and do better.
“So that brought me back to the pool.”
McKeon recently celebrated her two-year anniversary with pop star and swimmer Cody Simpson.
“I think she’s a different person,” her coach Michael Bohl told Wide World of Sports.
‘Swimming is still her main focus, but she is now in a relationship.
‘They are very serious about their relationship. So there is a level of satisfaction, but I don’t see it spilling over into her attitude to training.
“She’s very focused on trying to position herself as best she can to secure spots on that Olympic team.”
