Today’s Republicans will look to build on their stunning electoral success by gradually taking control of the House of Representatives as races hang in the balance across America.

The Republican Party needs ten more seats to secure a majority in the House of Representatives, having already captured the Senate to give Donald Trump an early boost ahead of his incoming presidency.

With 19 results still to be determined, Democrats will be desperate to win more seats to ensure President-elect Trump does not have unchecked power when he is sworn in next year.

Who’s blaming lame-duck Joe Biden for Kamala’s catastrophic defeat

Those around Joe Biden are blaming Nancy Pelosi for Kamala Harris’ election loss, as Democrats begin bickering over who caused the party’s disaster.

It came as the president, 82, responded to Harris’ concession speech at Howard University on Wednesday.

The blame game went into overdrive last night when Biden confidantes told senior White House reporters that they held the former Speaker of the House responsible for being pushed out of the race.

Biden will make his first public remarks in a national address after the election

Joe Biden will address the nation today from the White House in his first public appearance since Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss to Donald Trump.

The President will speak from the Rose Garden at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

Yesterday, Biden gave his response to Harris’ tearful concession speech.

What America saw today was the Kamala Harris I know and deeply admire. She has been a tremendous partner and public servant, full of integrity, courage and character.

Key California races to watch in the battle for the House of Representatives

Democrats hope to gain four seats in California, which could be crucial in preventing a Republican supermajority in Congress.

But as of today, Republican candidates are ahead throughout the race, although some of the leads are small.

Here is the state of affairs:

  • California’s 45th: Republican Michelle Steel currently leads against Democrat Derek Tran by a five-point margin with 70 percent of votes counted
  • California’s 41st: Republican Ken Calvert has a slim lead of less than three points over Democrat Will Rollins
  • California’s 22nd: Republican David Valadao holds a 10-point lead over Democrat Rudy Salas with more than 50 percent of votes counted
  • California’s 47th: Republican Scott Baugh has a slim lead of less than half a percentage point over Democrat Dave Min

What Trump could do with a Republican clean sweep

If Republicans win back the House of Representatives, they would fully control the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the federal government during Trump’s first years in office, giving him sweeping control after he was voted out of office just four years ago.

Republicans could also take stronger action on transgender issues involving schools and sports, which Trump and the Republican Party have often discussed on the campaign trails.

Already under control of the Senate, Republicans will be able to dictate the approval of federal judges and Cabinet positions such as secretary of state and secretary of defense.

If a vacancy arises at the Supreme Court, the Senate will also deal with it.

During Trump’s last presidency, the Senate was controlled by the Republican Party, and the former president was able to help appoint three of the Court’s nine sitting justices — which has had a major impact on the body’s ideological bent.

A Republican supermajority could soon sweep Washington

Although Republicans have been declared winners of the White House and Senate, some House races could take days, if not weeks.

The Republican Party also gained control of the Senate after flipping several seats red, with some races still to be finalized and opportunities still on the table.

Republicans must now maintain control of the House of Representatives to gain a full supermajority in Washington DC, which would have major consequences for Democrats.
