2023 Logie Awards: Outrage over Leigh Sales Gold Logie nomination

Leigh Sales sparked outrage when she was nominated for a Gold Logie for her time as head of ABC’s current affairs program 7:30, despite leaving the show last year.

Viewers of the Logie Awards reacted negatively to the decision several hours later on Monday, flocking to Twitter to express their displeasure.

After leaving 7.30am in November, the TV presenter, 50, continued with the Australian Story documentary series, but some say it’s not enough.

Some agreed that one person said, “I was surprised too, but she won’t win.”

Another added, “Maybe because her best work ever was her statement to quit?”

Meanwhile, a third wrote a lengthy post, writing, “Groans from our family when we heard.

“She read from a screen, asked a few questions, which I wonder if someone else wrote for her, sometimes came across as biased and then shrugged it off when things got too hot.”

Despite the influx of naysayers to Leigh’s claim to the nomination, others spoke out in support of her.

One person commented, “Leigh Sales is a phenomenal journalist who deserves recognition for her hard work and dedication to telling the truth. Stop being so bitter and give credit where it’s due.’

Another commented, “I think the nominations are based on 2022. Next year 2023 will be nominated.”

Leigh announced her retirement from 7:30am earlier last year, explaining that she wanted to spend more time with her family. She was replaced by Sarah Ferguson.
