A Pennsylvania woman celebrated her 100th birthday with a party alongside her 78-year-old husband, who reached the milestone just months earlier.
Sharlet Johnson was born in 1924, the same year Calvin Coolidge won the presidential election and a gallon of milk cost just 28 cents.
The centenarian celebrated the start of her 100th year with a birthday party at Geisinger 65 Forward – a nursing home near Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
She and her husband Marshall are both patients at the care facility – which also hosted his own birthday party when he turned 100 in July.
‘I can’t keep track of time anymore. I’m here, and that’s it,” Marshall Johnson said KVUE.

Sharlet and her husband, Marshall, are both patients at a nursing home in Bloomsburg, which also hosted his own birthday party when he turned 100 in July.
The Johnsons have lived in the Bloomsburg area almost all their lives and raised a family in the area.
‘Not a day goes by that something doesn’t pop up. I picture it and think, oh yeah, and it’s going to make me laugh so hard again about all the stupid things we did,” Sharlet said.
Marshall is a military veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II and also worked in a steel mill.
Sharlet spent most of her adult years as a bus driver for school children and worked with 4H children.
The birthday girl clearly left a lasting impression on the children she worked with – as one of the Geisinger 65 Forward employees remembers Sharlet from when she was a second-grade bus driver.
“When I started working here and she came here, I thought, oh my God. She’s still here,” Sabrina Rosencrance said of her childhood bus driver.
“She was the sweetest lady. That’s what I remember. When we lost her and gained another bus driver, I was so sad because she just loved kids and loved being with us. She was amazing,” Rosencrance said.
The couple has been married for 78 years and raised a family together. Sharlet worked as a school bus driver teaching children to sew and Marshall served in the Army during World War II
Sharlet has taught many children how to sew over the years, including her own, and said children are the reason for her longevity.
‘The doctor asked me a few years ago what keeps you going. I said children and laughter,” Sharlet said.
In addition to working with children, Sharlet said she enjoys reading in her spare time.
