JOLIET, Illinois — A 2-year-old boy was fatally stabbed by his 6-year-old brother in Joliet, Illinois, police said.
The child suffered multiple stab wounds from a kitchen knife in a home Friday afternoon and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, Joliet police said.
Their mother called 911 and told police she was home at the time of the stabbing, but in a different room. WLS-TV reported on Saturday.
“Everyone in this incident is a victim,” Joliet police Officer Dwayne English told reporters. “We’re always looking for the why. Those are the answers we hope to get, but may never get, because of some of the complexities surrounding the investigation.”
The Youth and Family Services department has been notified and the victim’s family is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Joliet is located southwest of Chicago.
