DETROIT– Two people were killed and 19 injured in a shooting in Detroit on Sunday morning, Michigan State Police said.
State police said no one had been arrested and they were assisting Detroit police with the investigation, according to a post on the social media platform X. The agency said its preliminary information showed the 19 injured victims suffered “various injuries.”
Detroit Police Chief Dan Donakowski declined to immediately comment on the shooting, saying the department would release details later Sunday.
The shooting takes place in the midst of a violent holiday weekend nationwide. Violence and mass shootings are often on the rise in the summer months, especially around July 4. Researchers say the reason is a combination of factors, including more social events and higher alcohol consumption.
