13581987 New York Times makes bombshell demand of Joe Biden after the president’s disastrous debate performance
After reporting on his disastrous performance during the debate was limited to a small piece on the front page, The New York Times has finally spoken out about Biden’s bad night. The newspaper calls on the president to withdraw from the race for the White House.
The newspaper’s pointed op-ed noted that Biden appeared to be a “shadow” of himself and that the argument that he was the best Democratic candidate to take on Trump was no longer valid.
The newspaper agreed with Biden’s view that another Trump presidency would be a disaster for the country and endanger the country’s democracy.
They wrote highly of Biden’s administration, calling him an “admirable president.”
But then the Times, unable to ignore the president’s terrible performance, put it bluntly: “Mr. Biden cannot continue this race.”
It marks a turnaround for the paper of record, which faced criticism Friday morning after its print edition of the newspaper failed to comment on Biden’s appalling performance during the debate.
Instead, the article focused on issues that were largely peripheral: Iran escalating its nuclear work and an analysis of Julian Assange’s legal drama.
This was in clear conflict with other major newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, which each reported on the debate in the print editions of their newspapers.
At the bottom of their morning paper, The New York Times simply instructed their readers to check out their coverage of the debate online.
This sparked controversy, with many pundits wondering whether the Times would have been so silent if Biden had performed better or if Trump had performed worse.
The advice that the newspaper’s editors published on Friday evening meant a change of heart for the liberal newspaper.
Although the editors said that in the choice between Trump and Biden, “the incumbent president would be this administration’s unequivocal choice,” the gist of the piece was clear:
The New York Times is ready for Biden to drop out of the presidential race.
