$100m powerball: Here’s how you could win the massive lotto prize… and the numbers you should look out for

Australian lottery trends have been revealed ahead of the monster $100 million jackpot.

One lucky gambler could walk away with it on Thursday’s Powerball as the winnings piled up.

It could be the third biggest prize of the entire year, and the sixth biggest in Australian lottery history.

While it’s all a matter of luck, there are still a few winning trends to be discovered.

QuickPick or choose your own numbers?

So far this year, 11 winners of the Powerball division have scooped more than $492 million, with five in NSW ($210 million), four in Queensland ($120 million) and one each in South Australia ($150 million) and Victoria ($12 million).

More than half of the winning entries were QuickPicks and nearly half were PowerHit entries, a Powerball entry that guarantees the Powerball number needed to win Division 1.

Nearly half were small entries of 36 or less.

‘Warm’ and ‘cold’ numbers

The master cylinder, which draws seven numbers from 35, has produced a number of frequently drawn numbers, including 17, 7, 3 and 9.

There are ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers announced, seven of which are often drawn. 14 and 16 are ‘cold’ numbers.

The least drawn numbers are 15, 33, 31 and 26.

The most commonly drawn numbers on the Power Barrel are 2 and 4, while the least commonly drawn numbers are 14 and 16.

Postcode hotspots

The luckiest postcodes have also been revealed, with Eli Waters/Urraween in Queensland (4655), Melbourne in Victoria (3000) and the Sydney CBD (2000) all selling four winning entries for Division One.

Mitchell in the ACT (2911), Salisbury in South Australia (5108), Casuarina in the Northern Territory (0810) and Burnie in Tasmania (7320) all sold the top prizes in the first division of their respective states and territories.

Bassendean in Western Australia (6054) sold two winning entries for the first division.

More than half of Australian adults are expected to try their luck in Thursday’s draw, with Lott spokesman Matt Hart calling the jackpot “life-changing”.

“If just one person takes home the full $100 million prize on Thursday night, they will not only receive a significant boost to their bank account, but will also share the title of Australia’s third-biggest lottery winner ever,” he said.

‘Only five Australians know what it’s like to win a lottery prize of $100 million or more, but maybe we can add to that on Thursday night.’

‘The thought of winning this life-changing jackpot will undoubtedly spark big dreams for Australians this week.’
