James Harden claims he’s lost 100 pounds since last season, but it’s anyone’s guess whether the Philadelphia 76ers star is serious or not.

The former MVP broke out with teammate Joel Embiid with the claim on Monday’s media day, but did so with a straight face. When asked how much weight he had lost, Harden replied, “100 pounds. Tweet that.’

Moreover, his other answers do not reveal any hint of humor.

“For the past year and a half, I really wasn’t healthy enough to do the right job the way I’m used to,” Harden said, referring to a common criticism he’s received in recent years. “In that regard, this summer has been huge for me.”

The 6-foot-5 Harden has stood at 220 pounds for much of his career, but it’s hard to say how much he put on last season and what he weighs now.

But beyond the details, his claim that he lost 100 pounds was met with skepticism.

Many fans assumed Harden was joking, while some were amazed at his ability to keep his face straight as he made the claim.

Regardless, Harden emphasized that he is in better shape, both physically and mentally, and is entering his first training camp with Philadelphia after coming out of Brooklyn for a mid-season in February.

“Mentally,” Harden said, “it was very, very hard for me. Lots of dark moments, which I never really experienced.

“I’m in a really good space now,” Harden added.

The 76ers finished fourth in the Eastern Conference last season after picking up Harden from Brooklyn on Feb. 10, in exchange for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two first-round rosters.

After defeating the Toronto Raptors in the first round, Philadelphia fell to the Miami Heat in six games in the second round.
